Abstract

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of replacing maize with composite cassava tuber meal(C), brewe rs dried grain (B) & palm oil (P) mixed thoroughly at the ratio of 65%, 25% and 10% respectively to form CBP - mix in pig diets. The CBP which had a crude protein content of about 10.54%cp, ME value of about 3.57 Mcal/kg and crude fibre (CF) content of about 7.87% was included at 0,75 and 100% levels in diets 1,2, and 3 respectively. Eighteen young boars were divided into three groups of 6 boars each and randomly allocated to these three diets. Each dietary treatment consists of 2 replicates with three boars in each replicate. The results show that dietary treatment did not have significant effect (P >0.05) on feed intake, daily weight and feed conversion ratio. The cost of producing a unit weight of pig was greatly reduced by replacing maize with CBP. CBP may therefore be used instead of maize in pig diets to reduce cost of feed and the total dependence on maize thereby enhancing farmer’s profit.
