Abstract

In a two year field and laboratory study, the efficacy of some integrated pest management strategies on control of root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne spp.) of Livingstone and Hausa potato in two separate experiments were evaluated in Kuru, Jos Plateau, Nigeria. The first experiment was set up in randomized complete block design comprising of two Livingstone varieties (Riyom and Loangat) with 9 treatments and three replications and the second experiment was in like manner but with only one variety of Hausa potato, same management treatments and same methodology. Analysis of variance results showed that for the two years 2009 and 2011 , for the Livingstone potato experiment, use of healthy planting stock and dipping in warm water were promising management practices that increased crop yield while application of 200kg/ha N.P.K. 15-15-15 Fertilizer and use of 2t/ha of wood ash at planting gave appreciable control of nematode symptom on the Livingstone potato tubers. However, management practices tested, neither showed any significant effect on growth and yield of Hausa potato nor on the damage symptoms on the tubers in those two years.
