POPULATION DYNAMICS OF THE CARAMBOLA FRUIT FLY BACTROCERA CARAMBOLAE DREW AND HANCOCK (DIPTERA: TEPHRITIDAE) ON GUAVA PSIDIUM GUAJAVA IN PENINSULAR THAILAND
Abstract
Forty five accessions of the Turmeric germplasm at Umudike were screened in the field in 2007/2008 cropping season for their resistance to natural populations of root-knot nematode Meloidogyne spp. The results showed that few accessions like NCL4 (Atale Kabba mkt), NCL25 (Uranunen Oron), NCL43 (Adagbabiri), NCL41 (Golden Seal II Umudike), NCL50 (NVRI) and NCL32 (Ushi Ologbo) were susceptible while the vast majority were hyper susceptible. Significant results on the growth values of total yield/plot, primary and mother rhizome weights were obtained and higher yields were recorded for some of the less susceptible NCL25(Uranunen Oron), NCL41(Golden seal II Umudike) and NCL4 (Atale Kabba mkt) accessions. The highest field yield (9.247kg) was recorded for accession NCL41 (Golden Seal II Umudike). Keywords: Turmeric (Curcuma longa), resistance screening, root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne spp)
